Open 2022: Justin vs. Dave

It is time to put an end to the first phase of the Nobull CrossFit 2022 Open. It is time to analyze how this year has been compared to the previous ones, after the Change of sports director Three weeks before starting the competition. This year the Open has not been scheduled by Dave Castro, who has been creator of the CrossFit Games and director of these in the last 15 years, and who left the company in 2022 after being dismissed. For that same reason, this time, the Open of CrossFit has been programmed by Justin Bergh, Dave Castro's right hand when he was still working in the company ‘CrossFit Inc’And which held the position of Dave Castro after its dismissal and became the new sports director, giving a new vision to what could be the season of the CrossFit Games in 2022.

Open 2022: Justin vs. Dave

This year has been the second consecutive with three wods instead of five. A change of format to which we were accustomed, but that makes us see more clearly the differences between both programmers and the same number of Wods. Waiting for what happens in the Quarterfinals, we are going to make a small review of the workouts that have been this year compared to those of last year, and the main differences and similarities between the programming of Dave Castro and Justin Bergh, in this first part of the season. These have been Open 2022 Workouts In this beginning of the season:

Wods Open 2022

And these were the Open Workouts in 2021:

If we review the wods designed Dave Castro, we can see the following differences:

  • Lower amount of kilos in the first phase: Unlike other years, this Open has not been marked by heavy elements. There have been no complex or halterophilia movements. Complex that gave way to a fourth score and made the Open more competitively speaking.
  • The workouts have apparently Less technical difficulty: We can say that they have been more accessible to everyone.
  • The workout movements have been simpler and with a lower number of repetitions.
  • The celebrities Walkwalls They have reappeared, but with a fixed and common distance to everyone. The previous year the distance depended on the height of the athlete.
  • There was no No repeated wod of previous years, what in recent times had been very common. (The same because the wods belong to Dave Castro and not to CrossFit Inc.).
  • There has been no trace of toes-to-bar, a movement that with Dave Castro always appeared in the Open.
  • The Double Unders, As always, they have a presence, but this time with a much lower volume.
  • He Snatch has appeared in the form of Dumbell To make it easier (we all know the love-care of this movement with the bar).
In conclusion, we can say that this Open has been thought for a more ‘roakie’ athlete, waiting for what happens in the Quarterfinals, where we hope there is more than one surprise.
